| April 21 to April 27 marks National TV-Turnoff Week, whose aim is to demonstrate how rewarding life can be without television. Turning off the television (this includes the one in the car) gives us a chance to think, read, create, and do. It gives us the chance to connect with our families and interact with others in our communities.
Join thousands of parents, teachers, pediatricians and other families by celebrating TV-Turnoff Week 2008.
- First, talk with your family about the week.
- Think about what times you watch TV.
- Plan activities you can do in place of watching television.
Here is a quote and some ideas from families who have participated in this week long event in the past:
“It has been a nice experience because my kids are playing more and doing more activities”.
During a typical week, one family limited weekday screen time (tv, computer, etc.) to one hour a day. During National TV-Turnoff Week they turned the tv off completely and thought it was fun. Instead of watching tv, they read, the whole family went bowling and the children built a ferris wheel with K’nex!
The week before TV Turn Off Week the Children's School will be sending home information for families to use during their TV turn off time. Teachers will be discussing this with children and we would love to see what the outcome was in your household if you decided to participate. Share any activities or converstaions you might have enjoyed with your families!
