"Getting to Know You" could be the theme song at the Children's School for September. As the children are becoming familiar with the staff, the friends, the space and the routines, we are getting to know each child as an individual. The diversity is amazing! Each child has a unique temperament, set of interests and skills, and range of experiences to share. The staff seeks to help each individual child adjust well to school so that we can then facilitate development appropriately for each one.
Remember that because each child is unique, you will see differences in the particular choices children make among the available activities at school, and you will notice different patterns of growth, even between children whose birthdays are very close. Fortunately, the developmental path is wide, and there are many ways to learn well in school. During these early years, children will progress at vastly different paces. The key is to identify the unique pattern of growth so we can capitalize on the strengths of each child and support the acquisition of new skills. Rest assured that the staff is attentive to the trajectory of each child's development and will share their observations with you, formally at conferences and informally at other times. If we suspect any type of developmental difficulty, we will be sure to discuss it with you and together seek ways to support growth. In each class, we balance our expectations for what every child will achieve with our individualized challenges. We encourage children to strengthen their current interests and explore new activities. We adapt the activities to each child's level so that each can be encouraged to advance.

Feel free to observe your children from our observation facilities at any time and to direct specific questions to your child's primary teacher or to me. We are grateful that you have entrusted your children to us and we endeavor to partner with you to support their growth.
