“fairness, respect for one's opponent, and graciousness in winning or losing”  from the Merriam-Webster Dictionary

Children as young as 3 can begin to learn good manners while playing games with other children and their family.  Here are just a few to teach your child:

  • Taking turns
  • Letting your guest go first
  • Following the rules of fairness
  • Gracious winning  (compliment the other child on a good game)
  • Gracious losing  (shake the other child’s hand and say congratulations)

The old saying “winning is not everything, but it is how you play the game” is true.  Remember to be a good model for your children, they don’t always see that on television.
