Financial Aid
It is the university's policy that no student from the United States or Canada who is accepted for admission and is in good standing shall be prevented from attending Carnegie Mellon because of financial need. To implement this policy, the university has an extensive financial aid program including fellowships, scholarships and grants. The department augments this program through grants and assistantships for research and training. The Training Grant Link provides more information on these programs, which may have specialized requirements.
We currently provide complete support (tuition plus a 12 month stipend) for all of our graduate students for four years, and we expect to continue to provide such support for all students who enter our program. Although it is not necessary to apply separately for financial aid. the department encourages applicants to apply for national competitions
(such as NSF pre-doctoral awards).

Deadlines and Requirements
Applications for admission and financial assistance, together with three letters from faculty or others who can assess research potential must be submitted by November 28th. The GRE general scores are required, the GRE should be taken in the preceding September or October at the latest. There is a $45 application fee, which must be submitted along with the application.

Transcripts
One official copy of transcripts from each university/ college attended.

Letters of Recommendation
We require 3 to 4 letters of recommendation. We do not have a specialized form for these letters. We suggest that you use the online letter of recommendation feature.
1. You must complete and submit the online application.
2. The recommender will automatically receive an email from our system with
instructions on how to complete and submit the letter online.
3. The recommender will receive an on screen acknowledgement confirming the letter
was submitted successfully.
Our program will still accept letters of recommendation mailed directly
to our psychology department.

Test of Spoken English Requirement
Foreign students who are non-native speakers of English are required to take the Test of Spoken English, administered by TOEFL Programs and Services, in order to be reviewed for admission into the Psychology Graduate Program at Carnegie Mellon.
