The Center on Teaching and Learning (CTL) at the University of Oregon (UO), in collaboration with Oregon Research Institute (ORI), invites applications to a two-year postdoctoral training program – Preparing Education Scientists: Emphasizing Rigorous Research on Systems-Level Prevention and Remediation of Academic and Behavioral Problems – funded by the Institute for Educational Sciences (IES) in the U.S. Department of Education. Each fellow will participate in a two-year, advanced training experience to develop the research design and management skills, content expertise, and methodological competence necessary to make scientifically rigorous, pedagogically meaningful, and sustained contributions to the field of education. Fellows will be mentored by Drs. Scott Baker, John Seeley and Deanne Crone, leading experts in the fields of education, special education, prevention and intervention research. CTL and ORI operate multiple, ongoing research projects that correspond to the full continuum of the 5 goals within the IES goal framework. Nine research projects (8 are IES-funded) and 3 extant databases will be available to postdoctoral fellows to provide direct and systematic opportunities to participate and collaborate on prevention and intervention research that cuts across a range of educationally significant topics including, literacy instruction, early mathematics assessment and instruction, and prevention of serious problem behavior and school dropout. See http://ctl.uoregon.edu/ and http://www.ori.org/ for more information. Each fellow will focus his or her training experience on two content areas, and within one or two IES goals. Fellows are sought across the areas of early intervention, early literacy/math assessment and instruction, family intervention and treatment for behavioral problems, positive behavior support, statistics, advanced research methodology, education technology, adolescent literacy intervention and dropout prevention. Fellows are expected to leave this advanced training program with: (a) at least two empirical papers submitted for publication; (b) at least one competitive grant proposal ready for submission to IES, (c) a well-defined research plan that will direct their academic careers for the subsequent 3-5 years or longer, and; (d) direct experience with research projects and mentors that span the full continuum of the IES goal framework. Qualifications: Applicants should have a doctoral degree in education, special education, statistics, or related field. U.S. citizenship or permanent residency required. Start dates begin August, 2011. Applicants should send a letter of application describing their areas of interest in intervention research and related experience, CV, and a list of references to Stella Dean (sdean@uoregon.edu). Applications will be reviewed as received. The University of Oregon is an Affirmative Action, Equal Opportunity Employer.
