Lab Documentation
The documentation below provides information about common software and tools we use in the lab. This is an evolving document; please feel free to send contributions and updates to Anthony Kelly.
Adobe Audition
Adobe Audition is a sound-editing program. It replaces Cool-Edit.
Record, mix, edit, and master digital audio files with powerful creation tools that bring flexibility and control to your desktop studio. Adobe® Audition® 2.0 software is the all-in-one toolset for professional audio production for music, radio, and video.
Talk to Christi Gomez for access to Audition.

Alvin
Alvin is a script-driven program for controlling audio experiments, created by Dr. James Hillenbrand. It is flexible and quite easy to use. It is freely available. It runs on Windows; no special hardware necessary.
It is a software package that can be used for performing such routine tasks as controlling listening experiments (e.g., simple labeling, discrimination, sentence intelligibility, and magnitude estimation), recording responses and response latencies, analyzing and plotting the results of those experiments, displaying instructions, and making scripted audio-recordings.

Cool Edit
Cool Edit is an audio editing program. It is useful for cutting, copying, pasting sound. Formerly a free-ware product, it is now subsumed by Adobe Audition. We still have the original program. It has fewer bells-and-whistles than Audition, which can be a good thing. It serves as an easy-to-use sound editor.

Habit X
Program for presenting A-V stimuli to infants and recording their looking time online. Primarily useful for preferential looking experiments, in which you want to see if infants look/listen longer to one kind of stimulus than another. Requires a computer with at least two monitors attached.
See Erik if you want to play around with the program.

Kay Multispeech
Multi-Speech, Model 3700, is a low-cost, Windows®-based, speech analysis program, which uses standard multimedia hardware (e.g., Sound Blaster™ boards) to capture, analyze, and play speech samples.

Klattworks
KlattWorks is a new interface to the Klatt (1980) Synthesizer that allows for greater flexibility and control of your parameters. It is specifically designed for the speech perception researcher, but others may find it useful as well.
KlattWorks is not a synthesizer itself (it actually uses an external application to perform the synthesis), rather it simply manages and creates sets of Klatt Parameters that describe synthetic utterances.
